The Most Minnesotan Golf Tournament In The World

There are 48 PGA Tour events around the world, but there’s only one in Minnesota. The 3M Open.

For this year’s event, The 3M Open partnered with COOL STORY to help illustrate why this annual event has all of the makings of the Minnesota event of the summer. How do you accomplish such a grandiose task you might ask? Why, with content!!

Together, they identified key moments to leverage for content creation, including a press obligation with former (and still beloved) PGA champ Jason Day.

Using a blend of pop, golf and Minnesota culture they created a social content series hosted by U of M golfer Emma Carpenter that was uniquely 3M Open (and Minnesotan.)

COOL STORY founder Alex Frecon on the creative approach: “The 3M Open is cool because it’s in Minnesota. No other tournament can say that. The US Open can’t, the Waste Management can’t. In that regard, it is the most unique PGA tournament in the world. We really think that with the right content, the world will start to look at the 3M Open as uniquely Minnesotan. Additionally I’d like to put it out there that I am a scratch golfer.”*

3M Open Tournament Director Mike Welch: “At first, we noticed that COOL STORY’S website was “.co” and not “.com.” We were concerned, but ultimately swayed by their award-winning content. Beyond that, we really wanted to establish this year’s tournament (and beyond) as the Minnesota event of the summer. Working with COOL STORY allows us to create content that accomplishes this goal. Additionally, Jason Day doing ASMR was just an overall win for the golfing community.”
