Former WongDoody Leader Returns Home, Reunites with Agency CEO Kevin DiLorenzo to Fuel Continued Growth

Minneapolis-based independent agency Rise and Shine and Partners today announced that Matt Burgess joins its leadership team as Partner and Chief Creative Officer, bringing big-brand experience and a progressive creative outlook to the growing agency.

In the new role, Burgess will oversee agency creative output and drive transformation across all disciplines and business development efforts. He joins Rise and Shine and Partners from WongDoody, Los Angeles, where he was Vice President, Group Creative Director. The move to Rise and Shine also reunites Burgess with President and CEO, Kevin DiLorenzo, where at the agency formerly known as OLSON, now ICF Next, the two spent nearly a decade together as it grew into a national creative powerhouse.

“Matt’s exceptional creative sensibilities and collaborative spirit will make an immediate impact on both our client partnerships and agency culture,” said DiLorenzo. “His leadership style and contagious ambition make him a proven game changer.”

A writer by trade, Burgess has seen his belief in the unfair advantage of great writing validated by the Clio Awards, Communication Arts, Effies, The One Show, Graphis, The Obies, PRSA, The Webby Anthem Awards, Young Guns and even Saturday Night Live. He has worked on industry-leading brands including Honda Powersports, Burger King, Webex by Cisco, Google, Tinder, Green Giant, Nature Valley, and Allen Edmonds, to name a few.

“It took the perfect storm of an opportunity to leave a place where it never rains,” said Burgess. “I can’t wait to get to work and keep building momentum with a group of people that I trust and admire.”

Executive Creative Director, Bob Barrie, added, “We’re delighted to have Matt join our team. He brings a long history of smart, breakthrough creative executions across a range of media, along with a natural ability to encourage, mentor and bring everyone into the process.”

Burgess is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, former Alumni Board Member of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, and former teacher at Miami Ad School. He and his family return to Minneapolis from Hermosa Beach, CA.
