Minnesota Lottery Goes Back to The Future with New Scratch Game

Betty, a Quad agency, the creative AOR for the Minnesota Lottery since 2016, is taking players on a nostalgic ride back to 1985 to launch the lottery’s new Back to the Future-themed scratch game just in time for the summer season.
Tapping into the retro vibes and time-traveling spirit of the era, the campaign transports Minnesotans into a playful, electric world where excitement transcends the space-time continuum. The familiar and recognizable aesthetic of Back to the Future, combined with hyper-local storytelling, make for a campaign that celebrates the thrill of scratching to play.
The TV spot opens in a modern-day convenience store, where a casually dressed customer buys a Back to the Future scratch ticket. With a crackle of electric energy and a gust of time-bending wind upon playing the scratch game, she’s instantly transformed into Marty McFly’s signature look (complete with iconic red vest, skateboard and portable cassette player), racing out to a retro soundtrack while the stunned clerk lets out a joyful, “Great Scott!”. Two scratch game tickets glow on the counter, teasing the chance to win up to $88,000.
