Description

Position:
The Director of Social Media is part of the Marketing & Communications department for Minnesota United Football Club (MNUFC), a sports business located in the Twins Cities area of Minnesota and a member of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top tier soccer league in North America.

This position will report directly to the Senior Director of Digital Media and will work closely with the VP of Content Strategy & Production, the VP of Marketing, and the rest of the Marketing-Communications team.

Job Description:
This Director of Social Media will oversee all things social media for Minnesota United — the strategy, the content planning, the slinging of the spicy tweets, all of it. They’ll lead a small team of social managers and creators, while being extremely hands-on in the content planning, creative execution, and daily management of club social channels.

An average day might consist of brainstorming weird TikTok ideas one minute, mapping out a five-year growth plan the next, capturing behind-the-scenes content after that, then posting a series of ridiculous memes to end the day.

If that sounds like the sort of gig that suits your fancy, give us a shout. Promise we’ll let you do some weird stuff. Maybe not like Slim-Jim’s-social-media weird. But up there.

Here’s what you’ll do:
- Run social media. Like, you’re in charge of it.
- Manage a small team of social media managers and creators
- Oversee social media content planning and execution
- Work closely with a team of designers, videographers, and other creatives to concept and produce social content that just might break the internet
- Regularly track the metrics to determine what’s working, what isn’t, and how we’re going to get better
- Directly manage and operate club social media accounts (you’ll have a team to help you out, but you’ll also be posting that fire content directly from your phone quite a bit)
- Cover the majority of MNUFC home games, travel with the team for some away games, cover select team training sessions, oversee coverage of MNUFC2 games, etc.
- Stay on top of the latest trends to know what’s hot, what’s not, and what’s coming around the corner
- Work closely with the other fine folks throughout the organization to determine how social media can be used to drive revenue and achieve important business objectives
- Leverage the power of social media to grow the Minnesota United brand, deepen our connection with our fanbase and community, and achieve the club’s long-term goals both on the pitch and off

You might be right for this role if you:
- Have done this sort of thing before. Like probably for 7 years or more.
- Have a proven track record of doing big, awesome things on social
- Know soccer, love soccer, and want to spend a good portion of your waking moments thinking about soccer
- Legitimately love all things social. Like for reals.
- Are really, really good at coming up with cool ideas for social content
- Are good at the puns and cultural references and all those other things that help brands sound like a human on the internet
- Have experience leading a team and getting people to be the best version of themselves
- Can seamlessly shift from a meeting with the C-Suite to a video shoot with players to a brainstorm session with co-workers to posting tweets from your living room
- Have a knack for photography, design, videography or other creative disciplines that might come in handy for a role like this
- Want to take risks. Want to push the limits. Want to make Minnesota United famous.
