Description

Copywriter / Creative

Duke Cannon Supply Co. is currently looking for a Copywriter who can of course not only write extremely well, but is also fully capable of thinking & executing in a wide variety of channels, with an emphasis on social / content creation. The ideal candidate is someone who can wield language like a scalpel or a bullwhip (depending on the assignment) but can also really generate concepts, drive ideas forward, and ultimately wants to make a lot of culturally interesting things for a unique, ever-growing brand with a large and passionate following.

Interested parties will need to be capable of bringing the engaging Duke Cannon brand voice to life across a number of channels from video to social posts, emails to website listings, and print and packaging copy. This will be an incredibly fun, challenging and interesting job for a strong creative. You won’t be writing instructions for an appliance or PowerPoint slides for an insurance company—you’ll be creating engaging content daily that you’ll actually want to share with friends.

There are no bad briefs at Duke Cannon—we know our brand is a big differentiator and advantage for us, and we want everything we do to get noticed and elevate it. Accordingly, the person in this role will conceive, own and produce a wide range of energetic, creatively-driven work that universities will ideally instruct future students of advertising & marketing to regard as nigh-sacred texts.

Bonus: no timesheets.

Skills and Qualifications
• Build: we need someone who can come up with ideas and build on others. A maker, a builder, and a thinker.
• Creative Flexibility: We need a Jack or Jill of all trades—someone who can write and conceive across a variety of media and formats. Someone who can write a great headline, craft a 2-page dissertation on the importance of proper mowing lines, and ideate and execute video / social content.
• Student of Culture: The best candidate is immersed in current culture and can help Duke Cannon take advantage of opportunities to be timely and topical in a world where most folks have a 5-second attention span. For instance, we recently made an 8-bit videogame. What should we make next? A podcast? A blimp? You tell us.
About Duke Cannon
Duke Cannon Supply Co. makes superior-quality grooming goods that meet the high standards of hard-working men. That’s the short version.

The longer version is that Duke Cannon isn’t a retailer, wholesaler or mere manufacturer—we are a robust creative company that thinks up its own products, names them, designs the packaging and then markets them by way of a growing in-house creative team that uses all possible legal means to get our products into the hands (and skin and hair and beards) of consumers. Our premium men’s grooming products and sold across a variety of sales channels, and we have ambitions of taking over the world one deliciously fragrant grooming good at a time.

Reporting Structure and Company Location
This person will report to our Creative Director and work as part of the internal creative team, alongside Art Directors, a Social Strategist and our VP of Marketing.

Note: this is a hybrid position based in Minneapolis that does involve hours spent on-site; team members work in the office 3 days a week (some are here 5 days a week).

Salary and Benefits
Duke Cannon offers a competitive market salary plus insurance benefits commensurate with experience. Bonus eligibility starts after 6 months of employment. Because of our rapid growth, bonus payouts have typically exceeded base expectations and compensation increases have far outpaced inflation.
