Minneapolis-based advertising agency, Yamamoto, has hired David Weaver to the newly created position of Brand Strategy & Cultural Insights Director. David will be based in Burlington, Vermont.

Prior to joining Yamamoto, David was Managing Director at Cheil USA in New York City (Samsung’s in-house agency). He also founded Heresy, a strategic planning consultancy in Seattle, and he served as EVP of Creative & Strategy at Barkley in Kansas City.

David has served as COO of Orton Family Foundation providing marketing leadership to help small cities thrive, and was the founder of AccessCMO, helping entrepreneurs and growing businesses obtain marketing leadership by way of a subscription-based CMO service. While at AccessCMO, he created “Outsiderism,” a coaching practice to train creative thinking as a daily habit for business leaders.

“There’s just no substitute for the energy, intellect, and outright fun of the advertising business,” said David Weaver. “Yamamoto has assembled an amazing group of individuals who fuse the passion of youthful energy with the wisdom of seasoned agency veterans. I am humbled and excited to join this powerful team and can’t wait for the world to see what we create together.”

David’s career highlights include leading and inspiring the Nissan Global Brand Vision, SHIFT. He also built and led three account planning departments still in place today and inspired multiple award-winning national ad campaigns and disruptive product innovations. He has done all of this by combining the strategic (leadership, insight, rigor) with the human (optimism, imagination, humor).
