Fresh Meat Friday: Kate Worum

By rizeabove / / Get your phone calling hand ready and your resume acceptin’ engines fired up, we are about to share another one of the top young creatives in Minneapolis. Again, if you, a small company, or a youngin’ you know has roughly between 0-5 years of professional experience and a fantastic book. For all the glory (and a free steak) send along the information to: [email protected] Our young feature this week has worked as an illustrator, designer, curator, and an art therapist. Twin Cities meet Kate Worum our second female, first illustrator, and first Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) graduate to be showcased. Kate Worum is best known for her mixed media illustration work that has a touch of humor and hand done feel with a modern twist. She has done a lot of work for editorials and publications leading Kate to her current position doing illustrations for Metro Magazine. However, don’t worry Minneapolis, she loves doing freelance work as well and is always open for hire. When asked what drove Kate to her career she responded, “I’ve always had a gravitational pull towards art and design and have had incredible mentors. I used to ogle at illustration in print, product design, and advertisements and have always dreamt of being a part of it.” In fact, she’s currently working on two self initiated projects including creating an illustrative branding system for a beauty package line called Laurell Floral and creating textile designs for a scarf line. Kate is always looking for new ways to integrate her two loves, design and illustration, more closely and loves partnering with agencies and design studios to accomplish that. On top of being published in a long list of editorials, she has earned the Society of Illustrators LA award in 2011 for two of her pieces in her Frankfurt portrait series along with a Made at MCAD award for her Childhood Memories illustration. Check out more of Kate’s portfolio after the jump. Also check out our last two features, Chris Hill, a copywriter at Solve and Claire Bartels, a copywriter for hire.
