The Senior Graphic Designer advances Denver Zoo’s mission and goals by ensuring all external facing materials meet the highest quality standards and Denver Zoo brand requirements. Is responsible for bringing design solutions to life which adhere to marketing strategies and business goals. Interfaces with internal team and external teams. This individual is comfortable toggling between creative concept, art direction, and hands-on design and production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Idea generation and concepting for larger projects.
Interprets and executes design based on an identified purpose
Set priorities in alignment with Inspire Awe:
Safety first, always
Care demonstrated through exceptional guest service
Connect with each guest utilizing ROADMAP’s guest engagement strategies and program development process
Demonstrate a commitment to Denver Zoo’s Sustainability Policies by adhering to all environmental, safety, & health regulations, procedures, and goals.
Act in accordance with Denver Zoo’s Core Values of: Welcoming, United, Curious, Courageous and Transformative in all interactions with staff, guests, volunteers, and vendors.  
Strategy & Planning

Develop supports for, and enhances, Denver Zoo’s brand.
Designing original pieces, including illustrations and infographics.
Lead in the design and production of marketing collateral, digital content, and onsite signage.
Meet with internal ‘clients’ (from other Zoo departments) to discuss needs, propose strategies and determine solutions for individual projects.
Work with Zoo marketing partners to translate marketing objectives into clear creative solutions across a variety of channels.
Ensure visual communication standards are developed, communicated and consistently met
Collaborate with Zoo creative and marketing leadership regarding production for television and radio advertising.
Lead cross-functional meetings to articulate campaign strategies and solutions, ensure consistent use of brand standards. 
Review work, troubleshoot and provide feedback to creative team members.
Assist in reviewing junior designers’ work to ensure high quality. 
Creative partnership with Senior Copywriter. 
Intricate knowledge of the printing process across a variety of media (including everything from out of home advertising, to exhibit/on-site signage, to printed invitations).
Operational Management

Drive brand understanding and support throughout the organization; maintains brand identity consistency.
Facilitate creative briefs in partnership with Creative Director, considers objectives, budget, background information, presentation approaches, styles and techniques.
Provide leadership for graphic designers.
Other Responsibilities and Duties

Serve in direct design capacity, as required.
Assist External Relations Department with special events and media events.¬
Participate in internal training to develop leadership.
Must be able to occasionally work weekends/evenings.
Proficient project management skills including communication, prioritization, and use of software
Ability to juggle multiple projects and meet demanding productivity expectations without sacrificing quality 
Perform various duties as assigned.
Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related fields with a strong portfolio showing work in traditional and digital marketing.
Strong understanding of industry trends and creative tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience performing a range of creative positions, such as graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, copywriters, production artists and design enthusiasts.
Excellent storytelling skills to present and communicate concepts and work
Outstanding leadership and organization skills and require someone confident with everything from team building to mentoring, to guiding high-level creative talent
A thorough working knowledge of brand development, digital marketing, and creative process–as well as new platforms and technologies
A keen eye for visual details and strong aesthetic skills
Position Conditions

Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
Compensation

Range for this position is $5,076 - $6,346 (monthly).
