We are excited to add a Media and External Relations Lead to our best-in-class communications & marketing team. This is a high-profile opportunity to shape, influence and build Great River Energy's brand and reputation with reporters, media outlets, publications and external stakeholders. Working collaboratively with the core strategic communications team and partner agency, this is an amazing opportunity for an ambitious public relations leader who's eager to bring vision, ideas and execution to accelerate Great River Energy's brand and thought leadership.

The ideal candidate possesses superior writing, communication and organizational skills as well as a sharp eye for accuracy, syntax, grammar and aesthetics. Applicants must be comfortable with complex, technical topics and able to effectively communicate important information to a wide variety of audiences. Strong candidates should be passionate about professional, high quality, concise and creative communications. Experience and aptitude in project management, social media and marketing are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategize and execute on new opportunities, partnerships and approaches to build awareness of Great River Energy’s brand story
Oversee Great River Energy’s media and external relations activities
Solicit and identify business needs to craft, manage and execute a communications strategy through internal partners and public relations agencies
Create media strategies that reflect GRE’s brand and positioning, disseminate key messages and achieve the communications goals of the organization
Lead the company’s strategies and execution of communications plans for assigned business units in line with Great River Energy’s overarching communications strategies
Provide expertise in measuring communications and public relations efforts
Foster proactive public relations opportunities and partnerships
Lead strategic media relations
Serve as subject matter expert for media interviews and presentations
Assist in development and delivery of company messages
Lead and execute brand management
Lead and facilitate discussions to form and gain buy-in on critical organizational messages to achieve goals
Provide compelling and informative writing that informs and motivates
Identify story ideas, trends, issues and other newsworthy information
Understand current legislative and regulatory environment to manage and convey Great River Energy’s position to the public and key stakeholders

Education & Experience
Minimum education requirements include a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field. A minimum of 8+ years’ experience in executing communications programs. Must have a valid Minnesota or North Dakota driver’s license.
