Fresh Meat Friday: Daniel Ringold
Get ready, we're about to share another one of the top young creatives in the Twin Cities. If you, or a youngin' you know, have roughly between 0-5 years of professional experience and a fantastic book. For all the glory send the info to: email@example.com
Our slab on the block this week is a mathematician, German major, international traveler, English teacher in, Tri-Lingual in Indonesian & Thai, pattern maker, and a graphic designer with a passion for fashion. Twin Cities meet Daniel Ringold, a recent graduate from the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program at MCAD and a freelance designer. Before landing in the creative field Daniel lead a fairly long and interesting life having studied at Saint Olaf College, the University of Minnesota, and Northern Arizona University before MCAD earning him degrees in German, Math, and a masters in teaching English as a second language. He also about 12 years in South and Southeast Asia working as an English teacher and teacher trainer in Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and India.
Yet, as Daniel told us, "I've always been enthralled by visual design. I've always loved magazines and have had a fascination for prints and color in fashion. I can remember working part of a summer in a copy shop and I would use the chance to constantly make my own wacky cut-and-paste stationery. As I was working abroad, I kept feeling a pull to take a new career path related to design." So he saved up, moved back to the states, and earned his degree in Graphic Design at MCAD.
One of our many favorite things about Daniel's book of work is the fact that he is able to integrate pieces of his unique experiences into his work. In the first project featured below, he utilized his travels to come up with and design a unique, fun travel challenge game for the traveler that is up for an adventure. He also is able to combine his love of fashion and his influences from living abroad to create unique colorful pieces that draw from inspiration he found in other areas of the world. Very, very cool. Although he is obviously open to wherever life leads him next he told us, "Since I have a strong interest in fashion, interior design and home products, I plan to move into a career in textile and product design working with apparel and accessory design and/or home product design. I really enjoy making patterns, creating surface and packaging design, and using bold color choices influenced by my time abroad; so, applying my graphic design and photography skills in that field fits my interests, background, and style." Nice.
