Our slab on the blog this week is a writer, letterer, blogger, illustrator, Microsoft paint wizard, and a graphic designer. Twin Cities meet Ashley Hohnstein, a design intern at FAME retail. She just graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Stout this past May with a BFA in Graphic Design and Interactive Media; but, she's had a passion for art since she was a kid. Ashley told us, "I've been driven to be a graphic designer for as long as I can remember. In sixth grade, I used to recreate CD covers in Microsoft Paint, and used to think I'd be a CD cover designer one day. Clearly that dream has been re-realized in being a graphic designer." During school Ashley had a chance to cut her teeth working at as a photo assistant on commercial shoots and doing design work for her college. After graduation she landed an internship at FAME retail and has been producing awesome stuff all summer long with them.
The thing that drew us to Ashley's work was the breadth and frequency with which she plays with lettering, typography, color, and illustration. She has proven that she has the unique ability to create a body of work that is differentiated from project to project; yet, also hangs together as having come form the same individual. When asked about her future Ashley said, "My career aspirations range all over the place right now. I know for sure that I want to keep developing my lettering and illustration skills. Developing those has always given me the greatest satisfaction design-wise."
